AI Processing Disclosure
Uyir uses OpenAI's API to power its AI companion features — including chat responses, voice transcription (Whisper), and weekly reflection summaries.
What gets sent to OpenAI:
- Your chat messages and voice transcriptions
- Mood check-in context (anonymised)
- Guided session prompts and responses
Data retention:
OpenAI processes your data to generate responses. Per our agreement with OpenAI, data sent via the API is not used to train OpenAI models and is retained for a maximum of 30 days for abuse monitoring, after which it is permanently deleted.
Your opt-out rights:
You can opt out of AI-powered features at any time from Settings → Privacy Controls. Opting out disables AI chat responses and voice transcription. Your existing journal entries remain unaffected.
Note: OpenAI's data handling is governed by their Privacy Policy and API Data Usage Policies.

2. What Information We Collect
Account data
Name, email address, avatar (optional), language preference. Collected when you sign up.
Journal & chat content
Your journal entries, mood check-ins, guided session responses, and chat messages. This content is encrypted at rest using AES-GCM encryption.
Voice data
Audio recordings made via the mic button. These are transcribed via OpenAI Whisper and not stored — only the text transcript is saved.
Usage data
App activity (streak counts, last active date). No behavioural analytics or ad tracking.
Payment data
Subscription and payment information is processed via Razorpay. We do not store full credit card details — only transaction IDs and subscription status.

- To provide and personalise the Uyir experience
- To generate AI companion responses via OpenAI
- To send transactional emails (welcome, reminders, receipts) via Resend
- To maintain your streak and activity history
- To process payments via Razorpay
- To improve app reliability and fix bugs
- To comply with legal obligations
We never sell your data, use it for advertising, or share it with third parties beyond the service providers listed in this policy.
4. Cookies and Tracking
We use only essential session cookies required for authentication and security. No advertising cookies, no third-party trackers, no analytics pixels. Learn more in our Cookie Policy.
Optional analytics: If you consent, we use Google Analytics to understand how users interact with Uyir. This helps us identify bugs and improve features. You can opt out at any time from Settings → Privacy Controls.
5. Do Not Sell My Personal Information
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for their marketing purposes.
Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and similar privacy laws, you have the right to:
- Know: What personal information we collect and how we use it
- Delete: Request deletion of your personal information (subject to certain exceptions)
- Opt-out: Opt out of any future sales or sharing of your data
- Non-discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights

6. Your Rights
GDPR Rights (EU residents):
- Access: Download all your data from Settings → Data Export
- Deletion: Delete your account and all associated data from Settings → Delete Account
- Correction: Update your profile information at any time
- Portability: Export your journal entries in JSON format
- Opt-out of processing: Disable AI features from Settings → Privacy Controls
CCPA Rights (California residents):
- Right to Know: Request what personal information we collect
- Right to Delete: Request deletion of your personal information
- Right to Opt-Out: Opt out of any sales or sharing of your data
- Right to Non-Discrimination: We will not penalize you for exercising your rights
7. Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored on Supabase (PostgreSQL), hosted on AWS infrastructure in the Asia-Pacific region. All data is encrypted in transit (TLS 1.3) and at rest.
Journal content is additionally encrypted at the application layer using AES-GCM before being written to the database — meaning even our team cannot read your entries.
Encryption standards: We use industry-standard AES-256-GCM encryption for sensitive data at rest, and TLS 1.3 for data in transit.
8. Data Retention
Active accounts:
Your data is retained as long as your account is active.
Deleted accounts:
When you delete your account, all personal data is permanently deleted within 30 days. Backups may retain data for up to 90 days for disaster recovery purposes.
Consent records:
Your cookie consent preferences are stored locally in your browser (localStorage key: uyir_consent_v1) and are retained until you clear your browser data or withdraw consent.
OpenAI API data:
Data sent to OpenAI is retained for a maximum of 30 days for abuse monitoring, then permanently deleted.

10. Children's Privacy
Uyir is not intended for users under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us at contact@introspectlabs.ai.
11. Changes to This Policy
We'll notify you via email and in-app notification before making material changes to this policy. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
